BERKO YOUTH TAKE ON THE MINTEX !!!

Congratulations to Berkhamsted MCC member Max Golla for an amazing 2nd place at yesterday’s Mintex trial in Yorkshire. Known to be the hardest youth trial of the year. Also riding for Berkhamsted MCC Mason Tidd who unfortunately retired with a mechanical issue. He looked to going well until that point. Better luck next year.

Terry Golds RIP

Sad to report Terry Golds has passed away . His wife Paula was with him.

Terry served as Secretary to Berkhamsted MCC for about 27 years, right through Ted’s time as Chairman of 20 years, one year for Lionel and six for Ian Reynolds and carried on as Secretary for the South Midland Centre until he was unable to due to ill health.

He was always very efficient and hard working, also observing many trials for clubs in the Centre. A true gentleman.

Youth A British Trials Champion,George Clark, Competes in Adult Trial GB

Hello, I’m George Clark a Berko member aged 16 and riding a 2023 Beta 125 Factory trials bike. Last year I won the Youth A British Trials Championship and have now decided to take the next step up and move to the adult Trial GB Championship for this current year competing in expert (Sadly no separate 125 class for this year). I just had the first round of the Trial GB Championship this past weekend which was held at Fell Green, hosted by Bootle Scramble Club. We drove to this event Saturday, which is around 280 miles from Nash Mills and similar for us, for the section walk which when first viewing each one I thought there was no way any of these would be possible the next day. Come Sunday, I was partially correct with my thoughts as all the sections were very difficult but not impossible, I could just manage to get through almost every one out of the 12 except with no less than 3 marks. I did find it strange having a time limit plus being aloud to stop as I was very used to the non stop rules of the Youth Championship, by the later sections however I was preferring this format by far to the non stop rules as you can set up for each obstacle far better and it’s easier for observer to mark you fairly. Also different to the Youth Championship, was allowing no minders for expert and trial 2 routes which I think is one minus about the Trial GB championship this year as most riders including myself ride sections better and commit to obstacles more when there is a minder present. Lastly and definitely not least the venue, it was a brilliant place to ride with all sections consisting of naturals rocks, banks and some excellent stream sections near the end of each lap. Overall, I was very pleased with how I rode for my first Trial GB event finishing 26th out of 35 and on quite a high score of 136 but this was not far from many more experienced riders. Thank you for reading. George
